Mirrors and Lights
My life in the kitchen & my cooking during many , many years has one thing in common , there must be a difference , in textures : baked - raw - warm - cold - big - small - cubes - zoodles .......... & A New Twist on old recipes .... love that , the smallest thing ... could really make the difference ... the beauty and harmony of the plate .
All this has been such a pleasure to present to all the guests I have had , during the years , in a fun combination of music and smiles of course and since there is nothing stopping me ... xxx ... I will do , my Green Greek Island Cooking ( did my first veg. cooking seminar , back in -82 ) some private dinners and be working some hours in the kitchen out in the country side ... just for the hell of it and because I love it !
I have a lot of Greece in my head at the moment .... counting the days ..... am soo without patience ... may the days fly quickly , until I will , fly away too my second country ... Greek Easter at an island , could it be better ... I guess not !
Have prepared so many lambs and cooked Magiritsa so many years , the easter soup to be served , at midnight after church at Holy Saturday , well we will see if there will be , any soup this year , and at what place .... am anyway longing for the Tsoureki dipped in my coffe already ....
I was at a funeral in Aegina , the same spring as we left the island for Athens and Sweden it was a dear friend to my ex husband , it was David Kennedy , such a lovely man , artist and friend , his wife Mayas daughter Minna, is the godmother of our daughter Irida !
Aegina has tempted, intellectuals and artists to the island like bees to honey ...
Varnalis , Kazantzakis , Elytis , Vourlomis just to name some ...
David Kennedy came as a young man to the island and was quickly drawn into the same group as Christos Capralos and Yannis Moralis , I have listened to many stories over endless lunches at his & Mayas lovely home through the years , in Sfedouri a beautiful little village at the northern part of Aegina , the view from up there is breathtaking , I also have one of his small sculptures here in Sweden .. sweet memories , lovely times !
More recent artists we had as guests many times through the years ..... Costas Varotsos ( who loved the way I grilled the filettos by the way ) and Katerina Aggelaki Rouk just love her and she loved our garden .. oh and .. not to forget the old friend of my ex Stamatis Kraounakis , but it is almost impossible to forget him ...
There was and is , this Sunday the 31th of March an exhibition at the Benaki Museum ( and I would love to go ... but am living in Sweden now .. ) about Yannis Moralis as a master teacher and that is the reason , why I suddenly did remember all this , while when I was living at Aegina , it was a daily part of the life , that actors , singers and other artists did drop in at Gramma and say hello over a coffe or a glass of wine ... even some friends from Myconos popped by ... Aegina was then the perfect place for an outing in your own sailing boat or yacht , over the weekend , off season !!
Dance in the street - Have Pot lucks - Bake extra and Share - Sing - Turn up the Music - Take back the Night - And most of all be Kind - Love and be Happy !!
I have news Kind is the New Black !
